Easy Breezy Fro-Yo Coming to Noe Valley, San Francisco!

Frozen Yogurt in Noe Valley, San Francisco

I will try to keep this short & sweet – FROZEN YOGURT IS COMING TO NOE VALLEY!

I’ve been taunted by this smiling Fro-Yo cup each morning when I walk into our Zephyr Real Estate office. That’s right – Eazy Breezy Frozen Yogurt is moving in right next door. I’m not sure if this is going to help or hurt our office of top-producing Noe Valley Realtors (shameless plug for my associate, Danielle Lazier, who is the #1 producing agent of 2011). Is it safe to sell real estate on a sugar high?

I agree with the interviewees in the April ‘Short Takes’ of the Noe Valley Voice: “The only thing that is missing in this area is a dessert place.”

Now our beloved Noe Valley really has it all!

A change to the culinary constellation in Bernal Heights

I just read that changes are afoot at Liberty Cafe and Bakery on Cortland Avenue here in Bernal Heights ! New owners Vega and Guiseppe (the very cool owners of  Vega and Vino Rosso, two of my fav Bernal Heights eateries) have plans for the quaint cafe, wine bar and bakery space.  From the sounds of it, they will be collaborating with Mutsumi Takehara (of Sandbox Bakery and Eat at 903, also on Cortland Avenue) to provide the citizens of San Francisco with more amazing bakery goodness and pizza deliciousness.  What will this mean for this beloved Bernal Heights institution ?  Distilled from the report on Inside Scoop :

  • lunch, dinner and weekend brunch will still be served in the Cafe.
  • Mutsumi Takehara will be handling things at the bakery. Inside Scoop writes: “[Vega] says it was a natural fit: they had a bread oven, and Takehara was looking for a proper one to make more bread.”
  • In the evening, the bakery/back patio space will be serving thin-crust pizzas.  Expect heat lamps and movies on the patio, too!

Whoa ! Heat lamps, movies and pizza under the San Francisco sky ?!  Our own Foreign Cinema up here on the Hill ?!  I know where I’ll be spending my summer nights !

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 – Get yer stroll on – Summer Solstice Stroll in Bernal Heights, San Francisco, CA

Summer Solstice Stroll June 2011

Summer Solstice Stroll June 2011

It may not feel like it everyday, but technically, it is SUMMER!  Summertime in San Francisco is, well, unique. As San Franciscans, we know how to celebrate every warm day, bask in every last second of sunshine (until the fog rolls in) and take every opportunity we can find to stay outside until the sun goes down.

What better way to enjoy the longest day of Summer than by joining us at the Summer Solstice Stroll in Bernal Heights on June 21 (6-9pm, along Cortland Ave).  I can’t promise that it will be “shorts and t-shirt weather” but I can promise crazy good food, cool shops, a glass of white wine (or a nice cold beer), and toe-tapping music. Oh! and a whole lot of awesome Bernal Heights Village hospitality.

Put on your walking shoes and get yer stroll on.

Bernal Heights vs. Berkeley – Indoor Street Food 331 Cortland Marketplace Opens

This month, SanFrancisco Magazine had a piece entitled “The Berkeley vs Brooklyn smackdown“.  I think they got it all wrong … they should have written an article called “The Bernal Heights vs Berkeley smackdown”.  For some time now, our little neighborhood has been giving Berkeley a run for its money (or is that Bernal Bucks ?) for the title of “Gourmet Ghetto” of the Bay Area.

Bernal Heights new Marketplace

Bernal Heights new Marketplace

Now, with the opening of The Marketplace at 331 Cortland (@331Cortland on Twitter), an “indoor street food” marketplace, Bernal has decisively grabbed that crown from our neighbor to the east.  Even more awesome culinary delights have been added to the already pretty amazing foodie-heaven that is Cortland Avenue :

These 6  new vendors are in good company as they share a zip code with (to name a very few) Piqueos Peruvian Restaurant, Blue Plate, The Front Porch, Liberty Cafe, Vega (and its sister wine bar Vino Rosso where I can sit all night and drink Prosecco), SandBox Bakery, Good Life Grocery, Avedano’s Holly Park Market, and more.

With all of the added calories that Bernal now has to offer, I am making even more use of my membership at Fit Bernal Fit (our very own gym on Cortland).  My plan goes something like this:  lift some weights, run some intervals,  devour a few flaky empanadas and incredible vegan cookies while getting my Wusthof’s sharpened at Bernal Cutlery — all without feeling (too) guilty.

I heard that the building is green and solar powered — can anyone confirm that ?

Enjoy the Bernal Heights lifestyle – Hybrid Car-optional. ;)

PS. @MarriedWDinner – Great blog!

Bakery and Bento Box Cortland Ave Bernal Heights San Francisco

Bernal Heights San Francisco CA Bakery

Bernal Heights San Francisco CA Bakery

As the dry cleaner and I can attest, Cortland Ave is buzzing about that new bakery.

“Where is it?” “When does it open?” “Don’t you mean Liberty Cafe?” “Oh know, just what I need, a bakery around the corner! ;)

Get those stretch pants out because those in the know like Urban Daddy say that the new bakery in Bernal Heights named Sandbox will open very soon. We’re told Sandbox will be a bakery and Japanese deli. Let me just say, “Yum and yum.”

A fashionable bakery like Sandbox will be great for local Bernal Heights real estate values as well. Want to search Bernal Heights homes for sale or find out what your Bernal Heights home is worth in today’s market. We’ve got the tools. Enjoy with your coffee and croissant. Afraid you’ll eat too many? No worries, just head to another great addition to Cortland Ave & Bernal Heights SF real estate, the Bernal Heights gym: Fit Bernal Fit.

Bernal Heights San Francisco Real Estate

Bernal Heights San Francisco Real Estate

For those of us who live, love, and work in Bernal Heights or Glen Park (I’m a Bernal Heights Realtor.), we’ve known this is a fabulous place to live. And frankly, I do have a couple of issues with this article, not least, is the kind of random selection of recommended watering holes.

Nevertheless, we’ll take the good press when we get it! Read the rest of this entry »
